Malawi Cargo Centres (Transhipment Facilities for the Malawi Government)
Construction Phase Project Management
Our director, with John Burrow & Partners at the time, as Executive Engineer, was responsible in the finishing phases of the project, for contract management of two cargo transhipment facilities for Malawi Cargo Centres in Dar Es Salaam and Mbeya in Tanzania, where he single-handedly managed the project closure, on a project involving varied claims involving multiple currencies as well. Funded and implemented by the British government’s Overseas Development Administration, on behalf of the government of Malawi, it involved concrete framed office buildings; steel framed warehouses and workshops; ~60,000m2 concrete paved container staking areas; railway-sidings; substantial electrical substations; and one 30 tonne gantry crane at each facility.
